What a Senior shoot! We had a great time at the Rose Gardens in Washington Park and then spent some time shooting in NW Portland. We were also fortunate to have professional makeup artist Amy Gillespie on hand for this shoot, and she did an awesome job bringing out Allie’s beautiful features and skin tone. I’ll be posting a little behind-the-scenes video of Amy’s work soon, so be watching out for that. In the meantime, enjoy the pics and the slideshow…
Congratulations Allie!

It’s no secret that I love Senior photo shoots. I love working with teens and helping them commemorate their last year of high school! But beyond my usual excitement, I had been looking forward to this Senior session with Curtis for quite a while. Not only do we share first names, but Curtis is on his High School Tennis Team, as I was in high school. I love incorporating a Senior’s sports, hobbies, and passions into their session. If you are a Senior, I think it’s just another way to make sure that your Senior photos are all about YOU.

I love the golden wheat fields this time of year!

And I’m trying a new format on the slideshow… I’d love to hear your feedback. I’m excited for two reasons: 1) I am including some behind-the-scenes video and 2) this is a format that should allow you to view the slideshow on your iPhone!
Congratulations Curtis! I hope you have a wonderful Senior year!

Another 2011 Senior coming your way soon!

How fabulous does she look? I’ll let you guys in on a little secret that I will write more about in an upcoming blog post – Hair and Makeup by a professional. For the Senior girl that wants to add a little more “model” to her Senior photo experience, I will be posting information soon about a fantastic makeup artist in the Portland area and how she can make you look extra fabulous too!
In the meantime, for those girls who simply want some helpful hints and tips on hair and makeup before your big day in front of the camera, check out this article over at Salt & Prep! It has some great advice on how to prepare for your upcoming shoot.
Now go enjoy the sunshine!

We had so much fun on this shoot… Since Terry (dad) has been the vision (and a good chunk of the manual labor!) behind the restoration and renovation of our church amphitheater, it felt only fitting to start the session there!

After the amphitheater, we drove up the hill to a spot overlooking the city. The view from the west hills never ceases to amaze me!

Ahem, let me do the introductions. Ladies….Tyler. Tyler…. Ladies.

And finally… I always love working with a family that likes to have a little fun.

If you know our family very well, then you are aware that my nephew, Isaac, has been living here in Portland with Grandma and Grandpa while his dad (my brother-in-law) rehabilitates from injuries he suffered serving our country in Afghanistan. Now that John is retiring from the Army, he is able to take his son home to live with him. And soon, their family will grow by one more as John is getting married! While here in Portland to start the move, John proposed to Kristen and I grabbed the Canon for a quick, impromptu engagement session.
I loved how the light just poured into this golden wheat field and made for such a beautiful setting. Granted, walking in waist-high wheat was not too comfortable, but I think these shots are worth it!
Congratulations John and Kristen!

This session is proof that good things come to those who wait! Tam and I have been trying for almost a year to schedule this family photo session for the three of them, and it seemed that weather, schedules, travel, and just plain life kept us from making this photo-shoot a reality. Well, I’m so glad that we finally did and I think we really captured their fun, easy-going, warm personalities. The three of them couldn’t have been more fun to work with, and I’m excited to share some of these images with all of you!
First, a few images with the dogs- I love incorporating the family pets and these two were a GEM. Abbey – the black and tan Entlebucher Sennenhund (yes, I looked it up!) – LOVES her tennis ball and would pose so proudly just for the chance to chase it one more time!

I told you this family was fun, right?

I fell in love with this image even though it wasn’t what I originally planned or posed. Someone was walking up and everyone turned together. I just loved the way they’re looking out of the frame. A photojournalist once coined the phrase “F/8 and be there”, meaning always be ready to capture an image at any moment. I’m glad I captured this…

However, I think this one takes the cake….

Devan having fun!

Another great family session in the books…

There are certain things in life that make me feel old… my kids reaching milestones, seeing the number on my high school reunion years increasing, the color in my hair starting to fade away…. but some things make me feel more nostalgic than old. Take this photoshoot. I have known Tanner since he was in kindergarten. He’s literally grown up before my eyes. Sure, I’ve done several photo sessions with Tanner, but Senior pics are different. It’s a reminder of where we’ve come in life and what new adventures lie ahead.
So congratulations Tanner! I’m incredibly proud of you and the awesome man you have become!
(Okay, enough weepy-ness on my part!) Tanner is a Senior at Westside Christian School, and is heavily involved in their drama program. Tanner loves to act and I wanted to get shots that captured his passion and his fun personality. We actually did a 2-day photo session for Tanner’s pics and managed to get some shots inside the Opera House at Alpenrose Dairy where most of their productions are held. While indoor lighting on location can be difficult, I am pretty pleased with the results!

…and don’t forget to watch the slideshow for more!
